It’s a question that many pet owners are asking and most of them, in their mind, says yes. If you’re among them, then you’re right – it is possible for dogs and cats to be depressed.
Depression is after all, a chemical imbalance in the brain and like any living thing, animals experience that too. However, veterinarians cannot currently assess properly for depression among dogs and cats – but it certainly doesn’t mean that your pet is not suffering from it.
So what’s the best thing to do? Experts say that if you see your dog is less active than usual, or your kitty is spending most of the time sleeping on the cat bed, then take some time to spend an hour or two with them.
Play around, talk to them and see if they will respond well. If not, then have your pet checked. But if they suddenly becomes cheerful and active, then it simply means your pet is missing your company and you should schedule more play time with them.
