List of Tony Award 2011 Nominations Revealed

The 2011 Tony Award list of nominations have just been revealed at the Lincoln Center. The announcement of nominees was hosted by Tony Award winners Matthew Broderick and Anika Noni Rose.

Leading the list of nominations is the musical comedy, “The Book of Mormon” with 14 Tony Award nominations. The show is about a group of Mormon missionaries in Africa. It has received critical acclaim despite its sensitive subject matter.

The complete nominees for Best Play are “Good People” by David Lindsay-Abaire, “Jerusalem” by Jez Butterworth, “The Motherf**ker with the Hat” by Stephen Adly Guirgis and “War Horse” by Nick Stafford.

Meanwhile, for Best Musical, the nominees are “The Book of Mormon”, “Catch Me If You Can”, “The Scottsboro Boys” and “Sister Act”.

For Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play, the nominees are Brian Bedford in “The Importance of Being Earnest”, Bobby Cannavale in “The Motherf**ker with the Hat”, Joe Mantello in “The Normal Heart”, Al Pacino in “The Merchant of Venice” and Mark Rylance in “Jerusalem”

Meanwhile, for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play, the nominations went to Nina Arianda in “Born Yesterday”, Frances McDormand in “Good People”, Lily Rabe in “The Merchant of Venice”, Vanessa Redgrave in “Driving Miss Daisy” and Hannah Yelland in “Brief Encounter”.

For Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical, the finalists are Norbert Leo Butz in “Catch Me If You Can”, Josh Gad in “The Book of Mormon”, Joshua Henry in “The Scottsboro Boys”, Andrew Rannells in “The Book of Mormon” and Tony Sheldon in “Priscilla Queen of the Desert”.

On the other hand, for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical, the nominations went to Sutton Foster in “Anything Goes”, Beth Leavel in “Baby It’s You!”, Patina Miller in “Sister Act” and Donna Murphy in “The People in the Picture”.

The 65th Annual Tony Awards will be broadcast live on June 12, 2011 from the Beacon Theater. The Tony Awards have been held at Radio City Music Hall for the past 14 years and this will be the first time it will be held at Beacon Theater.
