Today is a special celebration for all lovers of the round puffs of fried dough which is also known as Homer Simpson’s favorite food. Indeed, today is National Donut Day.
And in honor of this big day, donut shops across the nation are actually holding donut deals.
Salvation Army, the group that established National Donut Day, is also on hand is helping the store celebrate, collecting donations from patrons. So go ahead and go out today to buy a donut, bring friends, bring your yomega maverick and play with it even if you want – because it’s for a good cause.
The national day itself, always celebrated on the first Friday of June each year, was established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.
