In an effort to make Pope John Paul’s beatification on May 1st more relevant to the tech-savvy kids of today, the Vatican has decided to create an official Facebook Page for John Paul II.
The Catholic Church has expressed their desire to use the popularity of social networking today to continue their mission of evangelism and this Facebook Page, which features the video highlights of Pope John Paul’s 27 years as pontiff, is a start towards this direction.
A Vatican official says, “What we found is that Facebook doesn’t just share information, it creates community. People begin talking to each other and sharing ideas.”
After this, the Vatican is also launching a new online portal by Easter with Twitter and blog integration to further enhance their social media presence.
“With the Internet you have this possibility of getting people’s comments, getting their responses, and also of hearing their questions,” continues the Vatican official.
